Russia Central Air Force Museum at Monino

During the Holidays, I visited Monino Russian Central Air-Force Museum

Layout of the whole Museum; it consists two hangers and one huge external exhibition area

In one hangers, famous I-16, bombs, machine guns, radio and gun sight devices are introduced

Few piston engines are introduced including liquid-cooled and air-cooled layout

Il-2 and Il-10 are shown; the nightmare of German army at WWII

One mockup of MiG-3, and real La-5 and Yak-9
MiG-3 was designed to high altitude interceptor with disappointed performance
La-5 and Yak-9 were representatives of successful Soviet fighter in WWII
Their maneuverability performance in low altitude saved Soviet Air Force

Monstrous Mil V-12 helicopter welcomed visitors

Tu-4, copy of B-29, stand right beside of Mil V-12

Tu-16, one of the cold war aged bomber with Kh-22
Huge Kh-22, supersonic anti-ship missile, always targeted US carrier

Tu-22 Blinder, ancestor of successful Tu-22M-3 bomber.
Though it had supersonic performance, lack of engine performance limited its combat range

Tu-22M, early version of successful Tu-22M-3 bomber.
It is the first version that adopt variable swept wing; air-inlet of the version is different from Tu-22M-3

Tu-128, biggest fighter ever built.
It could reach M1.5 with radar and 4 X R-4 air-to-air missiles.
Representative of how soviet is stressed by intercept mission (US also at 50~60s)

What a big monster... Myasishchev M-50 bomber prototype.
It targeted four-engine strategic bomber in Soviet Air-Force, but never entered service.

Another big monster... Sukhoi T-4
It wanted Mach 3 as a counterpart of XB-70 Valkyrie, but similar to its rivalry, it never went service

Party of MONSTERS
Il-28, and Su-24 seem small (They are also big aircraft)

Fighter-Bomber version of MiG-15

Classic jet of La-15, Yak-15, and MiG-9

Unmanned control model of Buran for research purpose

Party of Mil's Helo... including Mi-24A, P, Mi-26, huge transporter, and Mi-4.
Strange helicopter with airfoil tried to contain command center of army

Famous VTOL brothers of Yak-36, 38, and 141; only 38 entered service with short period

Famous combination of Tu-95 and MiG-29

Il-76 and hidden VVA-14 wig-craft, Caspian-Monster, only fuselage is remained

Finally, I could see Tu-22M-3 Backfire

MiG-29K, naval version of MiG-29 is displayed

Mach 3 shock of MiG-25PD(Interceptor) and RBT(Reconaissance)

MiG-31 with external fuel tank; it is still in service

Experimental MiG-105, test of body lift of Buran, and high speed unmanned vehicle?

Series of old MiGs... MiG-15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 27

Series of Sukhoi's Su-7, 17, and 25 with their armament including rocket pods and AS-7

Old Sukhoi interceptor, Su-9 (upper) and Su-11 (lower) with old AAMs (AA-1, and AA-3)

Su-15 with AA-3 missiles

Prototype of Su-24 with small delta wing similar to that of TSR-2, one of the interesting aircraft

Prototype of Su-27, very different shape from production type

Su-24 with bomb rack and few bombs, truly first Russian fighter-bomber

Prototype of Su-35, not like Su-35BM or 35S, has canard
Prototype 711 had TVC and called Su-37 at that time.

Next time, I will upload Pictures and Videos of Russian Navy's day 2018 at St. Petersburg

  1. Unmanned drone rightside of MiG-105 is Tu-141; similar to US D-21, but much slower

  2. Missile on the Tu-16 is KSR-5 scaled down version of Kh-22, not kh-22. Sorry for confusion
