Scaled Composites model 401 with laser pod?

 * Related my previous articles for Scaled Composite

   -> Scaled Composites 401 (2017.10.27)

 Scaled Composites' model 401 had attached experimental? laser pod on the bottom of the fuselage. Its unique shape well suited for futuristic laser weapon.

Plasma actuated Aircraft


 Some researchers published video showing plasma pulsed aircraft; mechanism of the thrust generation is similar to the plasma actuator shown below.

 Although it has a lot of task to be a practical aircraft, that kind of propulsion become efficient at the high altitude because of smaller breakdown voltage of the atmosphere. 

 Indeed, there will be a potential for HALE type aircraft without mechanical moving part if solar panel could provide enough power for them.

Plasma Thrust Generator in Atmospheric condition


Off-topic of my Ph.D Dissertation study, I had used DBD plasma to generate thrust in sea level condition. (in 2015...)

Actually, plasma thrust generator or flow control devices are more effective at high altitude or space condition because breakdown voltage, required energy to generate plasma, become lower at these conditions. 

This short movie is simple feasibility demonstration for DBD plasma actuator, usually studied as flow control devices in low speed(Re#) condition. 

Although it requires a lot of energy to generate given thrust and generate ozone, it could be used for very small channel or re-active gas.
