IAI's Supersonic Air-To-Ground Missile (for F-35I?)

http://www.iai.co.il/2013/32981-48916-en/MediaRoom.aspx

IAI unveils their new 'Silver Bullet' type Air-to-Ground missile having supersonic speed.

Compare to ASM-3, Kh-41, or ASMP, this missile is lighter (1000lb class), and it could be noted that there is no usual ram-jet type inlet which extend its range in limited size. However if this missile could be carried inside of the IWB of F-35, 'short-arm' of the missile could be covered by stealth performance of F-35. And it is worthy it.

Also, launching aircraft, F-16I, launches its missile at high altitude with toss attitude to achieve maximum range of ballistic path (it is my estimation though)

Small canard type control fins are attached which probably give guidance correction at terminal phase of impact. Although whole geometry of the missile is little bit similar to that of LREW (Air-to-Air), there is no confidence that it could separate its booster. Because of its relatively low weight and less maneuverable requirement as AtG missile, probably there is no separable booster.

From these information and speculations,

* Lighter weight and small size of missile, and ballistic attitude of platform without ramjet
** Shorter range than other supersonic missiles like ASM-3, Kh-41, or ASMP
** Size of the missile could be fitted to IWB of F-35, it could be take role of AGM-88 of F-35s

* Small canard fins with rear stabilizer fins
** Ballistic trajectory requires stronger control forces than other cruise type configurations
** It basically targeted high value assets, however, IAI try to give maximum maneuverability for it
(Uncertainty of information could be corrected at the final phase like radar of SAMs, etc)

Project Lavi

Image result for lavi jet

http://www.icas.org/ICAS_ARCHIVE/ICAS1988/ICAS-88-1.6.3.pdf

Israel's old project, Lavi, is development of light weight jet fighter using F404 engine, similar size of FA-50 or F-20. Linked paper presented initial sizing study of Lavi while vid. shows effort of development.

There was a rumor that effort of Lavi design was delivered to China's J-10; both aircraft have similar planform configuration except size of engine (F404 vs AL31F).

Interesting project for F-4 (F-4X, RF-4X)

This project try to fulfill the needs of high speed reconnaissance aircraft based on F-4E phantom.

RF-4C/E already exist for this purpose, but this heavy modification targeted speed of MiG-25 level (M3...)

IAF requested GD to modify F-4E to enhance the high altitude high speed performance as shown below.

1. Con-formal water injection tank for thrust increase

2. Increasing vertical tail for directional stability in high speed

3. Adopting new inlet

Expected Max Mach is 3.2, and it means that IAF could hunt MiG-25, primary threat for IAF at that time.

So, similar to MiG-25, both reconnaissance and fighter versions are proposed.

However, US considered this project could motivate USSR to modify conventional jet fighter to intercept their

primary reconnaissance asset, SR-71.

And also, IAF could get F-15A which finally shoot down MiG-25, and they do not have to show interest that project. Then, this project is abandoned and only remain in X-project level.
