For a while, I considered "Attacking Missile" rather than others to validate ballistic trajectory. Defensive or interceptors are harder to be analyzed because it maneuverability should be considered.
This article only reviews kinematic range performance of well known SM-3 and SM-6.
--- MD of US Navy
1. SM-3 Block I
2. SM-6 Block I
Summary
- SM-3 intercepting performance is hard to be analyzed because of KV; only kinematic performance is shown how much range or altitude is achieved by rocket and booster.
- SM-6 can maintain kinematic energy up to 400km at high altitude but this is recued to less than 100km at low altitude.
- If SM-6 is shot as Ballistic Ground Strike Missile, USN's anti-ship capability is widely extended for its speed and range.
Appendix - SM-6 Block I as Air-to-Air Missile (No Booster)
SM-6 can be integated to Air-Platform as shown in this picture w/o booster.
So, no reason to hesistate analyzing SM-6 from the air.
